Altran Engineering Solutions assists in Design and Engineering Ergonomics for a global manufacturer of Switch gears and a Leading Player in solar photo-voltaic business in Europe and USA
Scenario

The forces of technology, engineering and ergonomics have radically changed component manufacturing. The interface between man and machine is a discipline that demands knowledge and application of science and art. Organizations have become increasingly aware of ergonomics of machine design to follow demands of work environment to be employee friendly.

Our customer, a leader in the solar voltaic business approached us to redesign the handles for its switch gear. The huge size of the lever and the existing design posed great stress on the forearm and wrist of the operator. This also led to a lower strength of grip around the handle. It was the body weight of the operator which aided in the operation.
How We Engineered Solutions

Research and Analysis occupies paramount importance at Altran Engineering Solutions. We conducted multi-dimensional studies to understand ergonomics as well preserve the style quotient of the lever.

The aim was to help the company operate its Medium Voltage Switch from the earlier design in a more ergonomically safe manner and with a reduction in the size of the lever.

The in-house Industrial Design team helped the client not only to come up with the user-friendly design but also suggested the installation requirements that will be useful for the reduction of user fatigue and stress.

The Altran Engineering Solutions team delivered a compact product with enhanced functions and with more features.

Benefits

  • Ease of operation
  • Reduced stress levels and user fatigue
  • Increased efficiency in performance
  • Optimised use of energy.
